Healthfully Yours***
Tea May Be The Fountain Of Youth
Drinking tea daily may just be the most
important boost you can give your immune, respiratory and
cardio-vascular systems. Tea contains flavonoids, such as: quercetin,
kaempferol and myricetin. These are the
antioxidants that the body needs
to maintain health. Research has shown that high amounts of these
flavonoids can reduce the risk of fatal heart attacks. Drinking one to
two cups of tea daily can afford almost 40 % less chance of having a
heart attack compared to those who do not drink tea.
The type of tea you drink will determine
the maximum benefits you will derive. Green tea and black tea will be
the most healthful. These are the teas that have the highest
concentration of antioxidants. Herbal or other teas will not afford the
same health benefits. It doesn’t matter whether you use the
decaffeinated or not, although the tea with caffeine will contain a
somewhat higher amount of antioxidants. It can be hot or iced tea as
long as it is brewed. The commercial liquid teas in cans or bottles, or
instant teas do not afford the same amount of antioxidants as when it is
brewed from tealeaves that are loose or in bags.
The antioxidants in the black or green tea
are compounds known as polyphenols. Both are about equal in
antioxidants, however, green tea has another special acting ingredient
called “EGCG”. These are the compounds that tend to neutralize the
damage done to cells in our body by free radicals that cause disease and
aging factors of the cells. They are also powerful in preventing heart
disease and cancer.
There are many, many more reasons for
drinking green or black tea. Studies have shown that a compound found in
green tea may help inhibit such immune system reactions that trigger
allergic symptoms. Although those symptoms are the result of agents such
as, dust, mold, pollen, grasses or pet dander. Drinking green tea on a
daily basis can lessen or possibly alleviate the affects of these
agents. Alternating between drinking green and black tea can assure
increased benefits.
Research has shown that drinking green and
black tea will offer a great many benefits, other than those mentioned
above. Some of those benefits are:
-
Can help prevent inflammation of the
arteries and other organs in the body.
-
Prevents clogging of the arteries.
-
A preventative in the formation of
arthritis, and those who have arthritis are aided by reducing the
inflammation present.
-
Can lower the risk of stomach, colon and
breast cancer.
-
Research has shown that ingredients in
black and green tea can cause the death of cancer cells.
-
A possible correlation in improving
cataracts in lab mice that may also be beneficial to humans.
-
Found to be a potent anti-virus fighter.
-
Increases burning of calories related to
fat and can help reduce and maintain body weight.
Read in Health Hints below which tea and
how much you should drink to derive the benefits of tea.
Health Hints***
-
The tea that will afford you most
benefits and the highest in antioxidants are the green teas and the
black teas.
-
It doesn’t matter if you choose tea with
or without caffeine, but the tea with caffeine will be slightly higher
in antioxidants.
-
Also, green tea has an added ingredient
called EGCG, which gives added benefits to improve your immune system.
-
Do not use the prepared varieties of
teas you buy in cans or bottles.
-
Do brew your own tea, whether in bags or
the loose tea leaves.
-
Allow the tea to brew at least five
minutes or more so that all the antioxidants and other beneficial
ingredients will be released.
-
The exotic herb and flavored teas will
not be nearly as beneficial as the green and black teas. They contain
very little of the antioxidants.
-
Alternating and drinking both green and
black tea can increase your benefits.
-
Some researchers feel that 3 cups daily
should be sufficient, however, more researchers now feel that drinking
5 to 8 cups daily would greatly enhance your health benefits.
As you can see from the above benefits,
tea is a drink that will enhance your health and can add years to your
longevity. It is indeed like dipping your cup into the “Fountain of
Youth”!
